Lake Arrowhead is a magnet for lovers of sport. What a natural center for sportsman –a mile high in bracing mountain coolness, surrounded by the vivid beauty of the lake-freshened altitude –and yet a scant two and a-half hour trip from the office.

Over a Million Fish a Year

Would you feel the sharp jerk of your line as the gamey Rainbow strikes and the reel screams as he fights back like the scrapper he is? Would you explore the deep pools where the big ones hide? Would you like to drift on the surface, smoking a pipe, just “fishin”?

Lake Arrowhead is a fisherman’s paradise. The lake abounds in rainbow trout, catfish and perch, stocked each year with over a million fish from the private fish hatchery of the Arrowhead Lake Company. The season opens May 1 and closes November 1. The limit is twenty-five fish, or ten pounds and one fish. Modern, appropriate tackle and gear is available at the lake, for rent or for sale.

Do you like to drift on a slumbering, mysterious lake under the stars that hang low and bright in a summer night sky? There are plenty of boats of all kinds at Lake Arrowhead, for rent at moderate prices. Row-boats, outboard-motors, canoes, and other craft.

Would you feel the first sharp tingle of a dive into the bluest of blue lakes –the radiant warmth of mountain sunlight as you travel out after a long swim –thrill of aquaplaning behind a tricky motorboat?

Lake Arrowhead is beloved of bathers. Bronzed, tanned children live in their bathing suits as they paddle in the shallow depths along the bathing coves, or in their very own private plunge.

There is complete equipment for swimmers: floats, diving boards, and efficient life-guard protection. A large swimming pool is also provided for the comfort and pleasure of guests.

The famous “Mile-High Swim” is held annually at Lake Arrowhead, and other water events, such as polo, water baseball, etc., are constantly being arranged both by guests, and by the resort management.

Bathing suits and dressing rooms may be rented at the bathing cove by guests; shower baths and ample facilities are available.

Here, on the green floor of a mountain valley is a nine-hole golf course that’s the measure of a man! To feel the resilient crack of the driver and see the ball go scooting down the middle of an emerald green fairway –this is to play golf at Lake Arrowhead.

Set by natural hazards, surrounded by towering peaks, with all-grass greens and fairways this course will give you the golf-thrill of a lifetime.

The course is perfectly maintained by the Arrowhead Lake Company for the use of owners of lots and private lodges and hotel guests. There is a well-equipped club house on the links, and a professional available for lessons. Tournaments and matches are constantly being arranged for the benefit of hotel guests. Many a famous golfer has played around the course at Lake Arrowhead and pronounced it without equal in sportiness and natural beauty in all the West.

Hear the twang of the strings and see the ball sail neatly over the net into uncovered territory. Learn the exhilaration of tennis in the sunlit altitudes. Lake Arrowhead maintains several fine courts for your pleasure. If you like a fast set on a perfect court in surroundings more beautiful than you have ever imagined –try tennis at Lake Arrowhead! Handball enthusiasts will find provision made for them, also.

Possibly in all the length and breadth of the West are there few ideal spots for riding as at Lake Arrowhead. Here is a complete change and endless variety. If you’re tired of the city and suburban riding paths –try the lure of a leafy, mysterious trail that rambles gently down a mountain valley –or a brisk canter in the morning over the mountains –crisp and invigorating. Or try a ride through the soft lake dusk peaks when the peaks are painted with crimson.

Large and varied stables are maintained at Lake Arrowhead. There is an endless variety of places to go –up to the tops of hills on plainly-marked bridle paths, or off exploring through the woods; a smart ride around the lake-edge path, or a lazy ramble on dirt roads in and out among beautiful private lodges around the lake.

A phone call to the stables will bring a horse to your door at any hour. Both western and English mounts are provided. And you can suit your taste as to the kind of horse you want –spirited and sensitive –or gentle, mild steed that doesn’t care if you haven’t ridden before.

And if you love to hike, you’ll be right in the center of the finest hiking country you’ve ever seen. Lake Arrowhead is in the center of a bewitching country, full of mystery, full of well-marked trails, abounding in bird life, and free from poisonous weeds, snakes and insects.

Here it is –the far flung beauty of dawn-red peaks, the lure of the little canyons, baby caves and tiny valleys –the easy, close-in trails by the lakeside –every sort and manner of hike you could want.

Lunches may be ordered from the hotels, and a guide, if you wish will accompany you. Lovers of the trail will find Lake Arrowhead abounding in “places to walk.”

Days and nights are full at Lake Arrowhead. Here is gay laughter, lilting music, the shuffle of feet on smooth floors. Here is all the galaxy of bright pastimes, impromptu stunts, moonlight walks, and the bright miscellany that interesting people plan at Lake Arrowhead.

Both The Lodge and The Inn are especially noted for smart dinner and supper dances and other social activities. There are excellent orchestras. These affairs are given over exclusively to hotel guests and lodge owners and their guests.

There is also a Casino at Arrowhead Village, open to the public, and another dance-provoking orchestra. Weekly bridge parties are held at the Women’s Club, and there are numerous Chamber of Commerce dances. Women’s Club. Masonic Club, and Izaak Walton League dinners and socials. There is never a dull moment at Lake Arrowhead.

But there is also quiet, rest and solitude if you desire it. Never are the parties and dances allowed to intrude on those desiring deep nights of restful sleep. Careful tactful management provides restrictions which benefit every taste.
