Arrowhead Lake Company

Lake Arrowhead Is Easy To Reach

From Los Angeles to Lake Arrowhead is a leisurely trip to be made as you desire, in two or three hours by automobile, or by steam and Pacific Electric trains from Los Angeles to San Bernardino where the big, luxurious busses of the Motor Transit Co. whisk you comfortably up to the lake. There is a choice of two main motor routes from Los Angeles.

Los Angeles to Lake Arrowhead
via Waterman Canyon Road

Go out North Broadway from Los Angeles. Turn on to Huntington Drive and follow Huntington to the Foothill Boulevard. Turn right at the Boulevard and drive straight to San Bernardino, a distance of 58 miles. If you have no reason to go through San Bernardino, and if you wish to avoid the traffic along the Foothill Boulevard (which from Claremont on is U. S. Highway 66), turn north from Foothill Boulevard at Euclid Avenue. (Euclid Avenue runs north from Uplands.) Drive up Euclid to Highland, thence through the out-skirts of San Bernardino to Sierra Way. Turn left at Sierra Way and drive straight to the entrance of Waterman Canyon, and straight up the State Highway, the plainly marked, smooth High-Gear Road to Lake Arrowhead. From San Bernardino, it is 20 miles to the Lake.

Another variation of this route is to follow U. S. Highway 66 to the outskirts of San Bernardino. Turn to the left on to Mount Vernon. Drive along Mount Vernon to Highland Avenue; turn right on to Sierra Way, and left to the entrance of Waterman Canyon and the High-Gear Road.

Los Angeles to Lake Arrowhead
via The Desert Route

From San Bernardino drive out Arrowhead Avenue to Cajon Avenue. Then drive over Cajon Pass to Hesperia. Follow the road signs to Lake Arrowhead. In the winter, the Waterman Canyon road is the best route. It is always open, save after severe snow storms, when there is occasionally a wait until snow-plows can clear the road. In Spring and Fall, many motorists use the Waterman Canyon Road going up, returning by the Desert or Hesperia Route. The desert trip is longer, fifty-six miles from the Lake to San Bernardino, but combines the splendor of the desert with the majesty of the mountains.
