Arrowhead Lake Company

The Tonic of Mile High Breezes

There is more to vacation a Lake Arrowhead than a glorious playtime. There is more than beauty; more than sports and entertainment –there is health –new vigor for residents of sea-level and hot valley districts.

Dr. J. Fraser Barbrick, well-known retired physician, and student of climatic effect on health, says of Lake Arrowhead:
“ Too long living at sea-level leads in many cases to marked toning down of the system, to loss of or poor appetite. For those cases requiring certain stimulation –to whom heat and dryness of plains, the fogs and chills of the coast, as well as the dust and dryness of the valleys are disagreeable and irritating –a change to a mountain resort where the air is pure is of inestimable value.

“Lake Arrowhead,” continues the well-known Dr. Barbrick, “is the loveliest resort of them all. Lake Arrowhead, with its great outdoors, its magnificent scenery, its glorious pines and heavily wooded slopes, its sapphire lake and bubbling brooks, its climate beyond compare, and its matchless beauty rivaling, or even surpassing, the noted resorts of the east and Europe meets completely all the requirements of the vacationists, the health seeker and the summer home builder.”

And, standing by the lake, looking out over its deep blue surface, feeling the clean sweep of the soft winds on one’s face, drinking deep the fragrance of the pines, who can doubt but that Nature heals and builds up the run-down bodies of city dwellers?

Incomparable Advantages

But there is more than beauty and comfort at Lake Arrowhead ; more than having a summer home in a sportsman paradise, near hotels famous for their appointment and cuisine –for Lake Arrowhead combines solidity with beauty and comfort.

For example, every lodge owner at Lake Arrowhead has running water piped to his lot –crystal clear and pure, pumped from 145 feet below the surface of the lake.

Every lodge owner at Lake Arrowhead may read by electric light, and motors and radios are much in evidence. Cooking is done by rock gas or electricity, and every lot is tapped by a modern sewer system, assuring ample sanitary convenience.

Telephones are available. Hence, there is no such thing as isolation. A telephone call to the stores, to the laundry, to the ice company, will bring the same quick attention that you receive at home. There is a school, a library, fire department, garage, drug store, dry goods store, moving picture theatre –eveything that it takes to round out life in the mountains, but which is all too sadly lacking in the ordinary summer resort type of community.

Yet, these modern facilities have not spoiled Lake Arrowhead. There is still the rugged beauty of the mountains and the pines, the unscathed splendor of the Lake. Everywhere, buildings and improvements have been made secondary to the environment. This is one reason why, when they see Lake Arrowhead for the first time, people cannot believe that so much improvement and careful planning have gone into the creating of this mile-high playground.

We are aware, in setting down these comforts and items of distinction that we have not told you half –nor a quarter. For Lake Arrowhead is not so much a smart community in the mountains as it is “a formula for living” –a background against which you act our your scheme of life, a spot of pure loveliness that will repay you a thousand times, in beauty, health, and pleasure, everything you put into it.

This was not by chance, nor was it brought about overnight. Years of work, millions of dollars, careful planning of constant safeguarding are represented in Lake Arrowhead.

The Arrowhead Lake Company plans that Arrowhead Woods will never suffer from neglect or from lack of proper control in the future. Many safeguards have been created to protect Arrowhead Woods. Careless hands are stopped from needless destruction of trees. No lot owner. For example, owns the trees on his lot. These are held in trust for the benefit of all property owners at Lake Arrowhead. The same is true of land on the Lake’s edge in front of each lake shore subdivision. This substantial strip of land is reserved and held in trust for owners of property. In this way the natural beauty of the lake shore will be preserved, and homes will be kept back from too near the water.

Planned and carefully built up at a cost of several million dollars, Lake Arrowhead is being developed primarily for the owners of private lodges, who enjoy special advantages not extended to the public. Some of the most desirable features, in fact, are reserved exclusively for lodge-site owners.

For example, only owners of private lodge-sites may operate private boats on Lake Arrowhead, and only these people may keep their own stable of horses.

A Strong Company

To have restrictions and standards is one thing; but to see that they are carried out is another. The men who constitute the Arrowhead Lake Company are well known and widely respected throughout Southern California. To say that the future of this project is in their hands is to offer ample evidence that this great, natural playground will always be properly developed and safeguarded.
